The Philmont Leadership Challenge (PLC) is an exciting
new program where adult leaders live in the Philmont
Backcountry and practice the leadership skills learned in Wood Badge for the 21st Century. You will expand upon these team building and ethical decision making
skills, and see your Wood Badge skills come to life during a series of challenging activities. PLC uses elements
of the Philmont Ranger Training as well as advanced Search and Rescue skills to
teach leadership, teamwork and the lessons of selfless service. PLC offers an unforgettable backcountry wilderness experience where you live leadership and teamwork, using the core elements of Wood Badge of the 21st Century to make your leadership skills intuitive.
The Philmont leadership team is committed to making PLC a very special experience. This course will change you, and give you the skills you need to change the lives of others.
You will live in a team setting at Rocky Mountain Scout Camp and use your leadership skills to resolve exciting and challenging backcountry situations. We follow Leave No Trace guidelines throughout the week, culminating in an unforgettable backcountry backpacking experience. The week will conclude with a closing challenge for each participant to build upon the legacy of Waite Phillips, the benefactor of the Philmont Scout Ranch.
PLC will equip adult leaders to be better unit leaders, Wood Badge or NYLT staff members and superior leaders in your everyday life. It will help guide your journey to become true “servant leaders,” able to develop all members of whichever team you lead. It provides life skills for now and the future.
